This policy explains how the personal data of people visiting www.laterradipuglia.com is handled. It is written to be read: where a technical term is unavoidable, it is explained.

That is the company deciding why and how this data is handled. For any question, or to exercise your rights, write to that address.
1. What we collect, and why
Reading the site requires no account, no sign-up and no credentials. These are the only cases in which data about you is processed.
Server logs
Like any website, ours automatically records the IP address, the date and time of the request, the page requested, the browser and the operating system. This keeps the site running, helps us spot faults and blocks automated attacks. It is not used to identify you.
Audience measurement
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-6QZ0EMF5LZ) to know which pages are read, where readers come from and what works. These are aggregate statistics: they tell us an article was read a thousand times, not who read it. Measurement relies on trackers stored on your device; section 3 explains how to refuse them.
When you write to us
If you contact us by email, we receive what you write: at a minimum your name, your email address and your message. We use it to answer you, and for nothing else.
The automated assistant
The site offers an automated assistant hosted on our own infrastructure (api.laterradipuglia.it). The questions put to it are processed in order to produce the answer.
The newsletter and the recipe book
If you ask for our free recipe book, your email address is stored by Brevo, which sends our emails on our behalf, together with the language, the site and the recipe book you asked for. We add it to the list only after you have confirmed it with one click, and we use it to send you the recipe book and then our emails: recipes, places and events in Puglia, and offers from our shop. Every message contains an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing is all it takes.
Comments
Comments are open under our articles. If you leave one, we record the name and email address you enter, your IP address and the text of the comment. The name and the comment are public; the email address and the IP are not, and are used for moderation and to fight spam.
What this site does NOT do
Worth saying plainly, because many privacy policies list services a site never actually loads. On laterradipuglia.com there is no advertising network, no chat widget, no heat-mapping, no social-network pixel and no advertising remarketing. Those things exist on other sites of ours, and each site has its own policy saying so. Here they are absent, and this page will say so for as long as that stays true.
2. The legal basis
- Your consent for audience-measurement trackers and for the newsletter. You may withdraw it at any time, and withdrawing is as easy as giving it.
- Handling your request when you write to us or use the assistant: without your details we cannot reply.
- Our legitimate interest in running the site securely: server logs, comment moderation, spam prevention.
3. Cookies and trackers
A cookie is a small file stored on your device. Some are strictly necessary for the site to work. Others serve audience measurement: for those, the GDPR and the ePrivacy directive require your prior consent.
How to refuse, in practice. Your browser settings let you block third-party cookies and delete ones already stored. Google also provides its own tools, including a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics. Refusing or deleting cookies does not stop you reading the site.
4. Who your data is shared with
We sell no data and hand none to anyone for commercial purposes. The following have access, for what they do on our behalf:
- mifaweb.org, our hosting provider, which runs the servers the site sits on;
- Google — Analytics, Google Fonts and embedded YouTube videos;
- Brevo, for the newsletter and the recipe book;
- the authorities, only where the law requires it.
📌 Two things that often go unnoticed. Google Fonts are loaded from Google’s servers: merely loading them passes on your IP address. And an embedded YouTube video is Google content: we use the cookie-free domain (youtube-nocookie.com), but the moment you press play, Google’s own privacy policy applies as well.
5. Transfers outside the European Union
Some of these providers, Google in particular, may process data outside the European Union, notably in the United States. Such transfers rely on the safeguards the GDPR provides — an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses. You can always read each service’s own privacy policy for the detail.
6. How long we keep it
- Server logs: as long as security and diagnosis require, then deleted.
- Messages received: as long as it takes to deal with your request, and a little beyond if a record is needed.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Comments: for as long as the article stays online, unless you ask for removal.
- Statistics: for the periods Google applies, set out in its own documentation.
7. Your rights
The GDPR gives you the right to know what data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict its use, to object to certain processing, to receive a portable copy, and to withdraw your consent at any time.
One email to the address above is enough. We reply within one month. It is free, and you do not have to give a reason.
If you think we are handling this badly, you may complain to a supervisory authority. As our company is established in Italy, that is the Italian authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali); if you live elsewhere in the European Union, the authority of your own country is also competent. You are not obliged to write to us first — though if you do, we would rather settle it directly.
8. Security, children, automated decisions
The site is served over HTTPS and access to data is limited to those who need it. No security measure is absolute, but ours are proportionate to data that is, in the main, an email address and a message.
The site is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect data about them. We make no automated decisions producing legal effects concerning you, and we do no profiling beyond the statistics described above.
9. Changes
This policy may change, particularly if a service is added or dropped. The version that applies is the one published on this page, with the date below. See also our legal notice.
